Proposal details
Clause 2.4.2.1. of the Liquid Fuels Handling Code (LFHC) 2017 requires that, if an underground storage tank is out of service for two years or more, then the tank and piping must be removed from the ground.
The facility was built, and the tanks installed in April 2016. The previous owner of the gas station went bankrupt in April 2018 and the station was vacant until April 2020.
2723579 ONTARIO INC. (the new owner) has had the tanks and piping tested for leaks. Both tanks and piping passed.
Prior to bringing the tanks back into service, the new owner will follow the requirements of clause 2.4.1.3. of the LFHC which requires that they:
- ensure that all monitoring systems, inventory control systems, spill containment devices, and overfill protection devices operate in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and the LFHC; and
- ensure that the tank vents are free of obstruction.
