Mining smelters should be on this list. In fact, anything that could result in harm to the environment should require an environmental risk assessment before being green-lit for building.

There are too many projects that will not have an Environmental Assessment and Ontario is one of the only jurisdiction in Canada that lacks an Environmental Assessment for Mines. Ontario's Auditor General said that the law allowing these changes was passed illegally and lacked consultations.

I find Schedule 6 of Bill 197 to be concerning. In particular I am worried that the proposed creation of a Project List, predetermining which projects will be subject to an EA, would allow many environmentally impactful projects to bypass EA requirements.

As a citizen of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, I am very concerned about the proposed Ferrochrome smelter planned for our city. To date there has been limited public consultation and it is difficult to have trust in the Ontario government if this proposed smelter is exempt from a proper EA.
