I am very happy to see that municipalities will have the power to veto any new water bottling permits in their districts. This is such welcome news as we face water security issues in the future due to climate change and also the growing crisis of the plastic pandemic. Read more

Municipalities should have veto power over all new permits – big or small – including those taking less than 379,000 litres per day for water bottling. Although I agree with the municipal veto, the 379,000-litre threshold is so unacceptably huge, it renders this proposal ineffective. Read more

The Minister reaffirmed the municipal veto for commercial water bottling permits to take water in Centre Wellington. This is very welcome news for our community given CW needs a number of new wells to support the potentially overwhelming population growth coming our way, Read more

379,000 litres per day!? This is thievery by corporate money-grubbers without long term concern or care for local RESIDENTS who live in the area every day and dig regularly into their tax pockets to ensure a reliable supply of safe local water to family, friends, and community. Read more

In regards to thisnproposal for water bottling company permits, municipalities should have veto power over all new permits – big or small – including those taking less than 379,000 litres per day for water bottling. This 379,000-litre threshold is unacceptable.

Giving municipalities veto over water taking is great but the threshold needs to be lowered to 50,000 gals. 379,000 litres is more than half of what our municipality requires daily and we’re growing rapidly here and will certainly require a lot more. Read more

I am pleased to see some progress in this regard as far as giving municipalities the right to veto *some* new or increased (above a certain threshold) water taking applications, however, i firmly believe we need to be even braver. Commercial water taking is simply wrong. Read more

I agree with the municipal veto, but the 379,000- litre threshold is too high. Any amount of new water taking for water bottling is unacceptable. Municipalities should have veto power over all be permits, big and small, including this taking less than 379,000 litres per day for water bottling. Read more

I support the municipal veto for water taking over 379,000 litres per day. However, it should be taken farther so that municipalities have the power to veto ANY amount of water taking for bottled water, including permits less than 379,000 litres per day. Thank you

While it is a positive step for the government to propose that municipalities can veto water taking for bottling purposes within their jurisdictions, there is no logic in the plan to declare that the municipality veto does not apply to the taking of 379,000 litres or less per day. Read more

Good Morning, I was very pleased to learn about the suggestion that a community must be willing to be a host to a water bottling plant but disappointed that buried in this headline are two issues that are objectionable. Read more

Allowing water taking of any amount without local consent in unacceptable. Furthermore, existing permits to take water for bottling purposes must be fazed out quickly. With expanding populations, municipalities need to protect their fresh water sources now and into the future. Read more

I would not mind supporting the bottling of water, if that water was going to people who don’t have access to safe drinking water. There is otherwise no logic and no ethics involved- just a company making money while doing harm to the environment.

Municipalities should have veto power over ALL new permits – big or small – including those taking less than 379,000 litres per day for water. I agree with the municipal veto, but this 379,000-litre threshold is unacceptable.

Protection of our groundwater is of vital importance and I believe that it is incumbent on our provincial government to establish daily thresholds that are low enough to discourage bottling companies from seekiing licences. Read more

I agree with the proposal changes but not a minimum threshold for bottled water taking. That is, municipalities should be consulted and give support before any new or increased bottled water taking by companies. Read more
