Highway 17 between Sudbury and Sault Ste Marie needs updates and more passing lanes. Traffic has increased in the last several years without much upgrades. More passing lanes would surely help along with improved pavement conditions.thanks!!
Hi,
My comments are in support of rail service returning to the North. We need an alternative mode.of.transport that does not rely on highways. Our hwy 11 north is constantly closing due to weather and accidents, for several hours at a time. We need an alternative, and that is not bus service.

I live in North Bay, ON P1B 7N4. Before they took our passenger train away, I travelled to Toronto Ontario on an regular basis to visit my sons and grandchildren. On the way I would work on our Genealogy and share my findings with them. I am 70 and not confident in driving in the city.

The Toronto-North Bay - Timmins - Cochrane rail link seems to be very slow in coming forward.
Essentially no progress since the last update. The mention of a track audit feels like a token action because nothing substantive has been done.

Regarding the statement in the Draft Northern Ontario Transportation Proposal “ From October 23 to November 20, 2020, people shared their feedback to help improve transportation along the rail corridor between Toronto, North Bay, Cochrane and Timmins.

I completed the survey on northern transportation previously but I do not believe the questions gave me an opportunity to express my opinion. Train transportation is so important in northern Ontario and it seems to have declined since I moved North.

30 months ago, the incoming provincial government promised to revive the much-needed Ontario Northlander train. This "plan" has lots of concrete steps to widen highways, build bridges, enhance airports, etc. -- but on passenger rail talks only about a "track audit": next to no action.

Noticed the language for all the other transportation options was more specific and concrete but this statement on passenger train service is quite vague. "is continuing to move forward on a plan for passenger rail services"

To have passenger rail service back would be a blessing. If and when such a plan is for real, I would suggest that rail fare would have to be reasonable. If the ticket price is out of reach to many, then again, not many could afford to use it.

I think that now would be a good time to get the trains going.Climate change is on peoples minds and support for big infrastructure projects is favourable.Borrowing money is cheap as interest rates approach 0%.The jobs created would help Ontario get through this also.
The attached report, submitted by Transport Action Ontario, criticizes, both positively and negatively, the Draft Northern Ontario Transportation Plan. It presents a forward-thinking, holistic view of the mobility needs of Northern Ontario and advises against the current focus on highways.

Three of the goals posted - 'enabling economic opportunities; preparing for the future; and maintaining a sustainable transportation system', are paramount to seeing a reliable freight railway operates between Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie ( cuŕrent Huron Central).

I would like to know why no connection is being made for residents located on and off Highway 11 (Timmins, Kapuskasing, Hearst, etc) to the west? If you google transportation from Kapuskasing to Thunder Bay, without your own personal transportation, you have one option...
Please prioritize train and transit service, and take action immediately to restore rail service in Northern Ontario at frequencies and speeds that are convenient for the communities it serves.

This plan is not necessary. If the highway bypasses Chelmsford and Dowling, then the small businesses in those towns will suffer due to low traffic flow through them.
What is necessary is the upgrading of the railroad intersection on Hwy 144 just before Onaping. It is dangerous.
