This proposal is for the renewal of the Limited Operational Flexibility for an Environmental Compliance Approval (air & noise) No. 8990-A57QMP for Gerdau Ameristeel Corporation, a production facility of hot-rolled carbon steel bars and shapes from recycled scrap metal, located at 160 Orion Place in Cambridge, Ontario.
The facility production limit is 480,000 tonnes of steel per year. The emission sources include materials storage and handling, hot rolling, and auxiliary processes.
Emissions to the air from this facility include:
- carbon monoxide
- nitrogen oxides
- sulphur dioxide
- particulate matter
- nickel, and
- benzene
The Environmental Compliance Approval with Limited Operational Flexibility (air), when issued, permits modifications to the facility subject to limits on operational flexibility that include a production limit for the facility to be specified on the Environmental Compliance Approval with Limited Operational Flexibility (air). The Limited Operational Flexibility conditions have an expiry date. The company will be required to make an application for amendment at that time to renew these conditions.
