Proposal details
This proposal is to amend the Environmental Compliance Approval (air & noise) No. 4649-57YQR9 for Carmeuse Lime (Canada) Limited, a lime manufacturing facility located near the Town of Blind River, Ontario.
The amendment requested includes:
- adding operational flexibility conditions to the approval;
- the removal of one lime kiln; and
- the replacement of one baghouse.
The sources at the facility include kilns; baghouses; and ancillary handling, transferring, screening, crushing, and processing of limestone, coal, petroleum coke, and lime products. Major contaminant emissions to the air include:
- particulate matter;
- metals such as manganese and nickel;
- calcium oxide;
- hydrogen chloride; and
- products of combustion such as nitrogen oxides and sulphur dioxide.
The Environmental Compliance Approval with Operational Flexibility (Air), when issued permits modifications to the facility subject to limits on operational flexibility that include a production limit for the facility to be specified on the Environmental Compliance Approval with Operational Flexibility (Air). The operational flexibility conditions have an expiry date. The company will be required to make an application for amendment at that time to renew these conditions.
