This proposal is for a new Environmental Compliance Approval (industrial sewage) for Walker Aggregates Inc.. This application is for the Shepherd Pit closed loop settling and wash pond system for aggregate washing.
The Shepherd Pit operates an aggregate washing system comprised of a two-cell settling pond and wash pond. The settling ponds are used to treat the process wastewater from the washing operation before it is released back into the wash pond.
The washing process is a standard recirculation system where water is withdrawn from the wash pond, run through the washing process, discharged into the settling pond for treatment, and re-circulated to the wash pond with no off-site discharge.
The settling pond will remove the sediment contained in the process water before it is discharged back into the wash pond for re-use.
The ponds are unlined and dug into the pit floor and water table.
