Proposal details
On August 21, 2026, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing received a complete application from the Sault Ste. Marie North Planning Board for approval of a new official plan, adopted by By-law No. 2026-07 on August 13, 2026.
The new official plan, if approved, will replace the existing plan, which came into effect in 1999. The new plan will guide growth and physical (land use) change across the planning area for the next 20-year planning horizon, while incorporating provincial objectives and community-driven priorities.
The ministry will review the matter for consistency with the Provincial Planning Statement, 2024, conformity with the Growth Plan for Northern Ontario, 2011, and compliance with the Planning Act. All feedback received will be considered before presenting any potential modifications to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing for a decision in accordance with section 17 of the Planning Act.
As set out in subsections 17(36.5) and (38.1) of the Planning Act, the decision of the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing regarding an official plan adopted in accordance with section 17 is final and not subject to appeal.
