Proposal details

The proposal is for a new Environmental Compliance Approval for industrial sewage treatment and stormwater management works serving Asahi Kasei Battery Separator Canada Corporation's lithium-ion battery separator manufacturing facility, located at 5088 Highway 140, in Port Colborne, Ontario.

The stormwater management works comprise of stormwater quality, quantity, and erosion/sediment control works, and include on-site storm sewers, four oil/grit separators, three stormwater management ponds for non-contact stormwater, and a fourth stormwater management pond that receives treated industrial effluent prior to discharge via a common outfall to the Welland Canal.

The industrial sewage treatment works comprise of a collection and treatment system of the utility wastewater from the boilers and cooling towers and the treatment of wastewater from manufacturing operations. The treatment works are designed to meet primary effluent quality requirements prior to discharge to a stormwater management pond (#4), with ultimate discharge into the Welland Canal.

The Ministry may require monitoring of the industrial wastewater and stormwater effluent discharge leaving the site.
