Obviously, moving to immediately, aggressively and significantly reduce emissions and air pollution (especially produced by large emitters) must be a key priority in any environmental plan to ensure human health and minimize climate change.

Of course polluters should bear the costs of polluting, but don't scrap the current program without first establishing a sustainable framework. There also have to be consequences to polluting. Otherwise, you're just abolishing our recycling program, and that's the last thing we need.

Ask Mike Schreiner what needs to be done to hold polluters accountable... and then actually listen... and than actually follow through.

As a well informed environmentally conscious citizen, I strongly encourage the government to be ruthlessly persistent and tough on for-profit organizations that pollute our overly abused ecological habitats, parks and farming lands and waters.

Mandatory thresholds on carbon emissions or other chemical contamination. Financial penalties that are substantial enough to hurt if companies do not comply.
Reduced property tax as a financial incentive for companies that meet exceptional standards in low emissions.

Make polluters pay through carbon and other taxes. Use the collected funds to compensate landowners (for property taxes and costs) that keep natural habitats on their property that clean up everyone's air, water, reduce flooding, reduce greenhouse gases, maintain wildlife species, etc.
This proposal is a step in the right direction following the unfortunate cancellation of Ontario's cap and trade system in 2018. It is only right to re-enact a revenue-generating, polluter-pays system that provides incentives for low-carbon technologies and innovations going forward.

This is completely unacceptable as a provincial strategy on climate and nothing but a half hearted attempt at avoiding a federal tax being applied to Ontario when the Ford government promised it would stop it.
