Management of wildlife by lethal means never accomplished any balance and never will. It’s simply a state-sanctioned hunt. Let the wolves do their job and quit trying to improve on Mother Nature. You can’t.
Party hunting
I would like to see a system much like elk hunting where you declare your party hunting group prior to draw and only those listed may party hunt under the tag. Without this all you will get is large groups party hunting and stating they are only calf hunting when questioned.
Just something to consider if you do not want any animals left in the bush because of shooting the wrong animal; I would suggest shoot what you see and apply any number of tags required for that area for that year.

I applaud the Ministry with making changes to the moose program in Ontario. The propose changes reflect a modern approach to tag allocation. However, I do have the following comments.

The current moose tag allocation system works well and does not need to be changed. The proposed new system strikes me as overly complicated and will be difficult for hunters to understand. I do not think the proposed changes should be made.

The proposal, apart from being very complicated, will result in hunt camps having too many tags one year and none another. The present system for group guaranteed tags works well and should be maintained.
An additional comment, I concur with the proposed new bow season and quotas, and the creation of separate tag quotas for bow and gun seasons. This same approach should be used in the calf harvest control WMUs, that is create separate calf validation tag quotas for bow and gun seasons.

Here are the issues I/We have with the change that should be reviewed and either removed or improved on.
1) Northern folks get an extra in year point. This needs to be removed…period! Its an unfair advantage that no other hunter has anywhere in the province for any game animal.

I am a Member in a hunt camp in WMU 50, near the Town of Kearney, and we currently have 18 Members, but we are set up to have up to 25 Members. We own one thousand acres of land and our traditional hunting area extends beyond this one thousand acres onto adjacent Crown Land.

I believe that greater protection for moose in Ontario is needed than the proposal plans for.
1. There should be no calf quota. It takes a lot of time and energy to produce a calf and they should be given the chance to reproduce

I live in Meaford Ontario. I used to enjoy hunting but have ceased to do so unless the target population is healthy or needs to be reduced for its own good. Moose populations in Ontario are in trouble. There should be a complete moratorium on hunting calves.
