This is a dangerous precedent for the future of the green belt and protected spaces in Ontario and Canada. It’s a broken promise from the Premier, and a bold faced effort to enrich developers and will do nothing to address the housing crisis.

Increase in housing supply should be done by building up, not out, particularly in land that has been designated as a green belt. All of the research and decision-making that led to it being designated as such STILL stands and is even more necessary than ever before. Read more

I condemn this proposal in the strongest possible terms. This is a completely outrageous proposal that must be abandoned if there is a shred of democratic responsibility in the present government, as there is zero electoral mandate for this proposal. Read more

Redesignation of land is unacceptable. The ecological, economic, and social value of the lands lost in this process will never be regained or compensated for. Protection measures for the Oak Ridges Moraine should only ever be increased.
