Sofina Foods Inc. - Environmental Compliance Approval (air)

This proposal is for an Environmental Compliance Approval with Limited Operational Flexibility (air & noise) which replaces all the current Environmental Compliance Approvals for Air at this facility and includes the addition of new or historically unapproved sources for all emissions from Sofina Foods Inc., producing frozen fried chicken products and deli meats, located in the City of London, Ontario.

The emission sources from the manufacturing and associated processes that discharge to the air include receiving, product forming, product battering or breading, frying, cooking, smoking, freezing, and packaging. The amendment includes consolidating ECA Numbers 8-1142-96-006, 8-1162-92-937, and 8-1013-92-006; requesting Limited Operational Flexibility; and modifying the natural gas fired comfort heating equipment and nitrogen cooling tunnel exhausts.

Emissions to the air from this facility include:

• 2,3-benzofuran
• carbon dioxide
• furan
• suspended particulate matter
• nitrogen oxides, and
• noise

The Environmental Compliance Approval with Limited Operational Flexibility (air & noise), when issued permits modifications to the facility subject to limits on operational flexibility that include a production limit for the facility to be specified on the Environmental Compliance Approval with Limited Operational Flexibility (air & noise). The Limited Operational Flexibility conditions have an expiry date. The company will be required to make an application for amendment at that time to renew these conditions.
