Proposal details

This proposal is to amend the Environmental Compliance Approval (air & noise) No. 2005-8RHJL6 for Clean Harbors Canada, Inc., an integrated hazardous waste management facility located in the Township of St. Clair, Ontario.

This application is for the addition of two leachate ponds. The emission sources from the manufacturing and associated processes that discharge to the air include landfill operations, waste pre-treatment processes, a liquid waste incinerator, leachate ponds covered with high-density polyethylene (HDPE) liners, boilers, baghouses, scrubbers, exhaust fans, fumehoods, storage tanks, an emergency diesel generator, and ancillary support operations such as a laboratory services, management, and maintenance services.

Contaminant emissions to the atmosphere include

  • benzene
  • benzo(a)pyrene
  • hexavalent chromium (fraction in chromic acid)
  • nickel
  • nitrogen oxides
  • sulphur dioxide, and
  • noise
