We have amended several regulations related to excess soil under the Environmental Protection Act, and related documents, in response to delays to infrastructure and development projects as a result of COVID-19, and to support flexible reuse of excess soil.

An amendment to Environmental Compliance Approval (air and noise) No. 7148-8BNMNP was issued to MV Coatings Limited, a powder coating facility, located at 16 Hoffman Street in Kitchener, Ontario.

We have decided to end the nitrogen oxide and sulphur dioxide emissions trading program by revoking O. Reg. 397/01 and O. Reg. 194/05 under the Environmental Protection Act. The Program is no longer an effective tool to address emissions of these contaminants from regulated sectors in its current form.

Pursuant to Section 53 of the Planning Act, provisional consent was granted on July 30, 2021 in respect of Application 58-C-215876 for the creation of one new resource-based recreational lot in respect of land described as PIN 62327-0380 in the Unincorporated Township of Pellatt, District of Thunder Bay.

On April 14, 2022, Ontario filed amendments to O. Reg. 541/05 (Net Metering) and consequential amendments to O. Reg. 389/10 (General) to clarify eligibility of third-party ownership arrangements for net metering, align regulatory requirements related to electricity retailing, and enhance consumer protection.

Pursuant to Section 53 of the Planning Act, provisional consent was granted on December 19, 2022 for the creation of one new resource-based recreational lot on lands in Tudhope unincorporated township, District of Timiskaming. A Notice of Change, dated December 17, 2024, has corrected and clarified the standard conditions.

The ministry has closed an application for a permit by the Corporation of the City of Pembroke to carry out sanitary sewer works in Pembroke, Ontario that would have impacted Butternut and its habitat. No decision was made and no permit has been issued.

We have finalized a Guide which will help municipalities and climate change practitioners to complete greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories and develop community emissions reduction plans. The Guide supports actions on climate change, energy planning, the Growth Plan, 2017 policies, and Ontario's Five-Year Climate Change Action Plan, 2016-2020. 

A decision has been made not to proceed with the proposal to make a regulation for a streamlined environmental assessment process for the Ministry of Transportation’s Greater Toronto Area West Transportation Corridor project (Highway 413).

Pursuant to Section 53 of the Planning Act, provisional consent was granted in respect of Application 58-C-189386 for the creation of one (1) new resource-based recreational lot for land described as PIN 62279-9513 and PIN 62279-9515, Whitefish Lake, Unincorporated Township of Hardwick & Jean, District of Thunder Bay.

Pursuant to Section 53 of the Planning Act, provisional consent was granted on November 18, 2022 in respect of Application 54-C-213330 to separate the existing residential and agricultural uses, in the Unincorporated Township of Ingram, District of Timiskaming. The last day this decision can be appealed is December 8, 2022.

The ministry issued an amended Environmental Compliance Approval to Sun-Brite Foods Inc. for sewage works for the collection, transmission, treatment and disposal of treated process effluent, non-contact cooling water and stormwater runoff, serving a food processing facility located in the Town of Kingsville.

The variance is approved.

Pursuant to Section 53 of the Planning Act, provisional consent was granted on February 25, 2020 in respect of Application 54-C-196366 to register an easement over PIN 61315-0273 to access lands described as PIN 61315-0153, Henwood unincorporated township, District of Timiskaming. The last day this decision can be appealed is March 16, 2020.

The Director of Exploration has made a decision on the exploration permit application PR-22-000093 to RJK Explorations Limited for early exploration activities.

The decision is to: issue the mineral exploration permit.

The Director of Exploration has made a decision on the EMX Properties (Canada) Ltd. exploration permit application PR-20-000366 to undertake early exploration activities. The location of the activities is approximately 75 kilometres northwest of Wabauskang First Nation, Ontario, Balmer Township, District of Kenora, North.
