As a long-time resident and farm business owner from the west end of Norfolk, I am concerned that our county has not grown over the last quarter century. I see the growth happening in nearby Tillsonburg and the businesses and jobs coming in as a result and feel that Norfolk has fallen behind. Tillsonburg is only one of the many examples of communities we see growing and prospering. I feel that my provincial representatives have let us down with regards to their lack of enthusiasm for seeing responsible growth as well as championing the need for vital infrastructure needed, not only to accompany any possible growth but also to keep existing infrastructure adequately updated to meet the needs of our urban residents.
I feel that having a few more homes built in rural areas might result in current rural residents seeing services such as affordable internet and more police services out here in the west end of the county. It would also mean more enrolment in our rural schools and better usage of the facilities in our rural villages.
I am concerned about the fact that our former and current MPP’s have used these issues to create divide and unrest amongst Norfolk’s residents instead of working with our council to help bring homes and related infrastructure which, in turn, will attract businesses and jobs into Norfolk.
