We are a family that has had a residence on Farlain Lake for over 65 years. This comment is in response to Regional Sanitation Disposal Ltd spreading septage in the Farlain Lake watershed area. We find it very inconceivable that Tiny has only 2 or maybe 3 septage fields and one is within metres of an inland lake. We don't understand how the Ministry of the Environment could have possibly approved this as a site to haul and spread raw septage on.
Farlain Lake is a small lake that has no outlet at all and the septage field is directly uphill from it. Between the current septage field and the lake are several artesian wells which flow directly into our lake.
We are concerned that contamination of the undergound water table, artesian wells and ultimately Farlain Lake including residents' own private wells and drinking water is at risk.
We have also recently heard that the amount of septage being spread will now actually increase as Midland is no longer accepting septage from Tiny.
We understand there may be water quality and septage field site testing but we have yet to be informed of any regular, consistent testing and what the results have been.
We are obviously very concerned not only for our own health and the quality of the lake water, but also for the environmental threat, destruction of habitat and the health of the many ecosystems and species at risk that call Farlain Lake their home.
We are adamantly opposed to this site continuing as a septage field.
