I support the lease extension until 2038. I understand the value of maintaining important ecosystems. In my view, the cost of removing to the surrounding Chatham Kent community, both economically and as a community, is not commensurate with the benefits of expanding ecosystems in the park. The cottages represent a only small portion of the land of the park, so the incremental gains to the natural environment are likely not greater than the costs to the overall community.
There does not seem to be a strategy involved about how the park should be used long-term. Is it for people or is it for ecosystems? With a long-term lease, both the Park and the cottagers can adequately plan for what they want that future to be.
