The date for which Ontario rolls out tags does not in anyway align with other practices currently used in the USA. We need to look at how some of the states manage their tag allocation dates and deadlines. Their wildlife management is miles over Ontario.
When applying for a moose tag in Ontario I need to wait until the a few weeks before opening to see if I’m going or not. This is ridiculous.
This year is a great example. By the time we were notified that we did not get a tag I could no longer make any plans to hunt elsewhere.
Meanwhile folks I know, their groups were getting “too many” tags!
MNR needs to do a fulsome review and detailed audit on this policy.
Also change the tag from paper to one-time use on big game hunting. This is ridiculous way for MNR to “think” they are managing wildlife. This method requires the management of people as well and their ethics- why would you take that on?
