This proposal goes against all expert advice and evidence about how to address gridlock. Bike lanes don't cause congestion, they help to alleviate it because they make it possible for more people to bike instead of driving. If cyclists are forced to switch to cars because they feel unsafe, it will mean that many more cars on the road and congestion will get worse instead of better. It's also frustrating that the province is trying to micromanage municipalities. It only makes sense if the goal of this proposal is to win an election by using this issue to polarize and divide people.
