Study after study have shown that increasing lanes of highways leads to an increase in traffic, not a decrease. Likewise, promoting alternative transportation (i.e. bike lanes) will improve traffic in the long run. I cannot understand why the government is ignoring widely accepted planning principles - it seems antithetical to what the conservatives should stand for.
It also seems that the addition of the section of this legislation that concerns bike lanes is only distracting from the more impactful issue of building a massive highway through protected farmland when simply opening up the 407 would be far more effective. The proposed 413 will serve a small fraction of computers whereas improving access to the 407 will reach far more Ontarians.
