The government of Ontario should place a complete moratorium on water extraction for the purposes of bottling. The extraction of valuable water from an aquifer that an entire city and surrounding communities rely on is only the tip of the iceberg.
The environmental cost of the plastic used in individual bottles; the trucking of water to a centralized bottling facility; and the transportation by truck of the finished product to stores and then to individual homes is horrendous, not warranted, and not sustainable.
Water is a basic human right and should not be commodified.
