Given the continued and growing recognition of the importance of fresh water, I cannot understand why we would allow companies to extract these resources for resale. Think about the harm they have done in California and in France by over drawing - why would we be any different? These groups would be content to dry out our aquifers and move onto the next facility.
Think of how much is spent on water treatment and purification by Cities and Municipalities, while we sell clean water to private companies for a minuscule amount.
It is my opinion that the moratorium should be extended for 50 years and protected with legislation similar the green belt. I would give my left arm to see bottled water and water extraction companies run out of Ontario for good.
