This is a terrible plan; numerous studies show that adding a lane of traffic increases cars on the road and further reduces safety for cyclists and pedestrians. Bike lanes provide a safe and enjoyable way for cyclists to move throughout the city; removing lanes just encourages those to cycle on the road (which drivers say this is annoying) or resorting to driving, adding even more cars on the road. This is a move in the wrong direction for the city and will cause a lot of frustration for cyclists as well as drivers.
