Ontario was respected around the world for their leadership in addressing the transition away from coal to renewable energy and dealing with climate change, becoming leaders in the wind and solar energy fields while creating many jobs and economic benefits for our province. We have personally witnessed this happening before our very eyes over this past year in Milford during the construction phase of the White Pines project, and to see it come to a complete stop now is devastating. We should have soon been celebrating the commissioning of this small 9 turbine wind farm and seeing them on our daily walks quietly spinning in the wind providing clean electricity for our regional grid. The 4 that are here now stand majestically in the farmer’s fields representing change and hope, yet sadly not moving or producing the clean energy that would have powered the annual average electricity needs for the vast majority of the 10,000 + homes in Prince Edward County. It is , however, not too late to reverse the decisions that have led to the cancellation of the WPD contract which was awarded in 2007 and honoured in good faith by the company over a decade of very difficult challenges in permitting and court cases, which took a 29 turbine project down to just 9. There has been a tremendous amount of time, energy, money and resources invested to date. We must not permit this dismantling to happen and the windfarm should be completed as planned when the contract was awarded.
