Studies are showing aquifers are increasingly stressed due to use, increased temperatures and reduced rainfall. If climate predictions are true the situation will only worsen. A recent study published in the journal Nature Geoscience indicates that groundwater is replenished at a much slower rate than previously thought . With more than a third of the Canadian population relying on groundwater, active protection is needed now. The value of this resource cannot be taken for granted. Use of groundwater for anything other than private and agriculture use needs to be aggressively protected.
