It is of critical importance that we protect Ontario's collective irreplaceable and finite water resources now and for future generations as water constitutes a "Natural Capital "asset that is a collective asset upon which the natural world, and we the people are all dependant upon for life. It is essential that anything with the potential to cumulatively impact, imperil, degrade or destroy the quality, quantity and availability of Ontario's collective water resources existing base must be very carefully studied before allowing any existing or new water taking permits to be issued.

Any decision on protecting Ontario's collective, irreplaceable and finite water resources must ensure that this critical "Natural Capital" asset is fully protected for the benefit of all future generations as well as ensuring that it will be available to sustain the needs our natural ecosystems and biodiversity, and the growing needs of existing rural and urban water users. Climate change impacts resulting in protracted higher temperatures and drought can not be ignored and must also be carefully considered. Water conservation measures must also be addressed as Ontario continues to grow and develop. We cannot just continue to deplete without considering the cumulative impact of continuing to deplete this, amazing, sacred, precious delicious and threatened on many many fronts "Natural Capital" asset, as "water is life".

The moratorium needs to be maintained for another year to ensure that all of the scientific information that is available can be very carefully evaluated; firm decisions made as to how we will ensure the sustainability of Ontario's water resources and strong legislation is in place to monitor and protect our water resources as well as to charge, prosecute and heavily fine those who would, exploit, degrade or destroy Ontario's water, before any existing water-taking permits for existing or proposed water-taking permits like those of companies who bottle water for profit now, or may be contemplating doing so in the future, are approved.
