Cycling is an essential mode of transportation in Toronto. Bike lanes are essential for cyclists', motorists' and pedestrians' safety. If bike lanes are removed, cylcists will be forced to share the road with motorists, who are often not aware of cyclists and/or drive in a manner that puts their safety at risk. Toronto's congestion problem is the result of poor city planning and the influx of new Torontonians. While some bike lanes have reduced the number of vehicle lanes, Torontonians relying on cylcing as a mode of transport actually reduces traffic congestion. If the province is serious about reducing gridlock, it should invest in our public transit and in better bike infrastructure.
