The moratorium could actually be longer in order to complete the studies now on-going.
We also need to do a proper consultation with First Nations as nation to nation not corporation to nation.
In order to conserve water for future generations, we need to set priorities over uses, and have better management including mapping of the aquifers.
Also, climate change is a reality that cannot be ignored. We do not know the full effect but we do know the Centre Wellington area has experienced recurring droughts.
We also know that so many communities in this area rely on ground water, that this is a very important agricultural area, and that the community is mandated to grow by 100 per cent in two generations!
Mandating growth and giving away the water are a very bad combination of decisions.
