I support the moratorium. I hope the review concludes that the issuing of such permits for water bottling should cease, and should be much much more expensive for other purposes. Ground-water extraction can lower water levels below the level needed for riparian vegetation to survive, consequently reducing wildlife habitat. We now have the WWF report noting the 60% decline in the planet’s wildlife over the past fifty years. Let us not add to this. Ground-water extraction can also lead to land susidence, damaging buildings and infrastructure. Businesses have a habit of using resources and then leaving the costly consequences (toxic land, polluted water, subsidence etc. to government to clean up). Water bottles are a leading cause of plastic pollution on our land and in the oceans, affecting the health of marine life and increasing the costs to all municipalities of recycling programs which often don’t pay for themslves, and are still more toxic than not producing the waste in the first place.
