Ontario needs renewable energy for a multitude of reasons, not least of which is the ongoing threat of climate change, which only continues to grow as we pump carbon into the atmosphere. Continuing to act as if climate change is not real will not make it any less dangerous; in fact, the opposite will occur. The Ford government continues to behave in ways that are contrary to the safety and well-being of Ontarians, and they continue to cut programs that trade short-term gain for long-term suffering. These upgrades will need to be made regardless in the future. The only difference is that if this project is closed now, after having paid for it already, it will just cost Ontario even more money in the future, when we discover we will have to pay for it yet again. It makes no sense to close this down, other than to spit in the face of environmentalism directly, as seems to be the Conservative mandate. Economy matters as well, of course, and even from an economic standpoint, ending this project makes little sense. (There's also the point that if we have no environment, having an economy is going to be something of a challenge.)
