No! No! No!
Absolutely do not take the points away after the 2nd draw first choice! All that needs to be done is move up the claim time for the second draw including the second and third choice! Could never understand why these tags never had a claim date!
Example!
If our group is unsuccessful in the first draw we then all put in for the second draw, if we draw 3 tags with the 6 applicants in our hunting group the most we will use is 2 but only prefer 1.
We should not be penalized for only wanting 1 tag but being awarded 3 and taking points away! This could potentially prevent us from getting a tag for a few years until we can build up points again. Which might mean we would lose interest in moose hunting all together!
We have over the years gotten our group in a position to get at least 1 tag every year (5 points required no guarantee) following the system that the MNRF put in place
Taking points away would greatly interfere with future years draws for those that try to plan ahead!
Set up a surplus system that is FAIR,FAIR,FAIR this time, not like it was in the past where those calling in from North Western Ontario were blocked from making the call for a tag!!!!!
The surplus system in the past was not fair for those in the North!
Every year 6 hunters in our group made over 400 attempts each to get through on the phone lines with no success, however when I was in Southern Ontario when the surplus system opened up it only took 5 tries to get through!
We met up with other groups from Southern Ontario that had no problems getting a couple of surplus tags every year!
Keep all surplus tags open until the end of the season that can be applied for at any time until December 15th! This may actually spread hunters out instead of overcrowding the hunt able areas within the first 2 weeks of the season!
Hunters can go onto the surplus site see what's available at anytime and plan a trip!
This would be the same as provincial park camping sites system!
Stories we have heard since the points system was put in place!
Hunters getting a tag for which they did not apply for
(getting a cow tag instead of bull)!
Hunters getting an adult tag with 0 points ahead of those with points!
