This misguided attempt to "reduce gridlock" is not based on any reality of urban transportation, for which there is a preponderance of evidence that shows cycling infrastructure reduces not only the number of cars on the roads but also the risk of harm autos pose to cyclists.
Furthermore, it is a cynical attempt by the province to (yet again) meddle in municipal affairs when they should be staying in their lane (ha!), focusing on fixing the broken health care system (a 2018 campaign promise that has yet gone unfulfilled). If this government truly wanted to 'reduce gridlock, save time' for Ontarians, they would be working with cities to enhance public transit and look for bold solutions to reduce the use and reliance on cars in our cities.
