I agree with and support the proposal as it stands with a couple positive suggestions. Also, have it in place for 2025.
First the system for accessing the tags available for purchase should be uncomplicated, easy to access online and minimize wait or hold times. The previous system for surplus tags must NOT be repeated. i.e. long periods of no access and long wait times on hold. It should be similar to purchasing tickets for events online and/or call-in systems that place you in a que and call you back in a specified time. If MNR cannot do this in house then contract the function to a private entity that is capable of providing the service. MNR help line is currently ineffective in delivering this function.
Secondly, the points deducted for tags should ONLY BE the number of points required to obtain that tag, not the total points a hunter has accrued. For example taking all10 points for a tag from one hunter when other hunters qualify for a tag with 8 points. This would be a fairer and more equitable approach to the point system and would meet the objective of distributing more tags in the longer term as some hunters would be able to bank the leftover tags and qualify again sooner.
I look forward to seeing MNR's analysis of comments and response to this proposal.
