I believe that these response statements are a positive step towards further species protection. The statements acknowledge the needs of the Chimney Swift, Davis’s Shieldback, and Lesser Yellowlegs, including their habitat, which means that it will also positively impact other species whose habitats overlap with the targeted species. Another positive in the project is the amount of input from other sources such as input from the public, stakeholders, Indigenous communities, and scientific advice. In the end I think that the new statements are a positive for Ontario and will keep threatened and endangered species on the map for future generations to enjoy.
