I am deeply disappointed by the proposal for an interim combined sewer to support development at 955 Lake Shore Boulevard (Ontario Place). This plan disregards the decades of effort by the City of Toronto to separate and replace combined sewers, which were specifically aimed at preventing raw sewage from being discharged into Lake Ontario. It also undermines international agreements designed to protect the water quality and ecosystems of the Great Lakes.
This proposal jeopardizes public health, affecting water quality at beaches, fishing opportunities, and the overall appeal of the lake as a destination for both Canadian and international visitors. It is disheartening to see a private sector initiative take precedence over the public good, particularly at a time when biodiversity and ecosystem stability are already under severe threat.
