I have many objections to the MegaSpa project, fundamentally spending taxpayer dollars to turn a public space into a leisure space accessible only to the wealthy. However, I also object to the sewer overflow diversion, which means, inevitably, given the mega rainstorms we get now, untreated sewage will flow into Lake Ontario and the free publicly accessible spaces that people depend on using. This is TWO years of raw sewage into public waters, with an unacceptable impact on fish, birds, and other life, as well as human enjoyment. As we see more and more deadly heatwaves, access to the water is essential for Torontonians in summer. This process should not be rushed for the benefit of a private corporation. Further, the spa will only increase traffic on our already traffic-plagued Gardiner, slowing down everyday people trying to get to work so a select few can spend $200 on a massage.

It's shameful that tens of millions of taxpayer dollars are once again being wasted to prioritize a private company over the well-being of the public and the environment.
