I am writing to express my concerns regarding the proposed plan to reroute the sewer at Ontario Place. While I understand the intentions behind this project, I believe there are several significant downsides that warrant reconsideration.
Health Risks: The plan could pose health hazards. It raises concerns about potential water contamination, leading to risks of exposure to E. coli and other waterborne diseases.
Environmental Impact: There are serious concerns about the environmental repercussions of this rerouting. The lack of natural flow in the West Channel could result in it becoming a stagnant "entrapped bathtub," which may exacerbate pollution levels and negatively impact aquatic life.
Public Beach Concerns: The proximity of the rerouted sewer outflow to a future public beach raises numerous red flags. The potential pollution from the sewage could significantly affect recreational users and beachgoers, posing both health and safety risks.
Expansion Costs: Moreover, implementing the new sewer system could incur considerable costs. The required infrastructure upgrades, such as replacing pipes and adding pumping stations, have the potential to be financially burdensome.
I urge you to take these concerns into account and reconsider the decision to reroute the sewer at Ontario Place. Instead, I hope for an environmentally sustainable and health-conscious solution that ensures the safety and well-being of both residents and visitors to this iconic area.
Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.
