The speed up plan for Ontario Place is a mistake. I am specifically commenting on the proposal for an interim combined sewer to support rapid development at 955 Lake Shore Boulevard. I am opposed to the proposal. We need to prevent the discharge of raw sewage into Lake Ontario. We also have international agreements to protect water quality and habitat in the Great Lakes. This move will fly in the face of international agreements.

This effluent also risks human health in terms of water quality at beaches, fishing and the quality of the lake as an attraction for Canadian and international visitors.

A question remains. Why have no public consultations occurred with the general public? The current government promised better transparency. The entire Ontario Place redevelopment flies in the face of that promise.

This proposal only benefits private sector initiatives, it is not in the public interest and threatens the stability of the lake ecosystem in a time of significant biodiversity loss and species demise.
