I am commenting on the proposal for an interim combined sewer at 955 Lake Shore Boulevard (Ontario Place) and strongly oppose it. This proposal undermines decades of work by the City of Toronto to separate and replace combined sewers to prevent raw sewage discharge into Lake Ontario. It also violates international agreements protecting water quality and habitat in the Great Lakes. The discharge of effluent poses risks to human health, particularly regarding water quality at beaches and fishing, as well as the lake’s appeal as a tourist destination. Additionally, the province has failed to consult the public on this matter. This proposal, which serves private sector interests, threatens the stability of the lake ecosystem during a time of significant biodiversity loss. I urge the denial of this permit.
