I am commenting on the proposal for an interim combined sewer to support development at 955 Lake Shore Boulevard (Ontario Place). I am opposed to the proposal, which, figuratively and literally shits on decades of work by the City of Toronto to separate and replace combined sewers across the city to prevent the discharge of raw sewage into Lake Ontario. It also flies in the face of international agreements to protect water quality and habitat in the Great Lakes. Combined sewage infrastructure should no longer be allowed anywhere. I am outraged that our elected government is even proposing it.
The effluent from the proposed sewer risks human health through degraded water quality at beaches, polluted fish caught by anglers, and the quality of the lake as an attraction for Canadian and international visitors. Moreover, the province has not held a single consultations about this work with the general public.
In attempting to speed up the construction of this mega-spa beyond an appropriate time-frame, the Ford government is once again wasting tens of millions of taxpayer dollars to prioritize a private company over the well-being of the public and the environment.
Please do the right thing for Ontario, and deny this permit.
