Hello MECP,
Thanks for the opportunity to voice my concerns. I'm writing to express my opposition to the proposal for an interim combined sewer at 955 Lake Shore Boulevard West (Ontario Place).
This project goes against everything the City of Toronto has been working toward for decades—phasing out combined sewers and stopping untreated sewage from ending up in Lake Ontario. It also breaks with international commitments to protect the water quality and ecosystems of the Great Lakes.
The discharge from this project could seriously harm public health - polluting the water at our beaches, affecting recreational fishing, and making the lake less appealing for tourists. (I actually live quite close to the lake in the west end and it's not as if it's in great shape now.) On top of that - why hasn't there been more public consultation about this proposal?
If anyone at the MECP actually reads this, please don't let fear determine your decision. I realize that working under this government must be difficult. Don't let yourself continue to be bullied by them. This is all about political and private interests - not what's good for the people of Toronto, the environment and the other living beings we share this space with. Please reject this permit application.
Thank you and take care.
