I am opposed to the appalling plan for an interim combined sewer to support development at 955 Lake Shore Boulevard (Ontario Place)
The proposal mocks decades of work to separate unsustainable combined sewers. The public has been given no reason for this unseemly short cut around the city’s plans for that on-going work.
Likewise, we have not been told who will pay the cost of building this interim system for a private development, or who will pay for its replacement - supposedly in two years.
In the meantime, the proposal will allow discharge of raw sewage into shallow, low-flow waters used by swimmers, paddlers and wildlife.
It is an insult to international agreements to protect water quality and habitat in the Great Lakes.
Notably, all these negative public impacts are being advanced without public consultation.
Benefitting private sector initiatives at such risk to human health and the environment is not in the public interest.
Please deny this permit.
