Re: Combined Sewer Proposal at 955 Lake Shore Boulevard - Ontario Place.
!. So, the City of Toronto has spent years upon years and millions of dollars to separate raw sewage from combined sewers in order to prevent raw sewage from entering Lake Ontario and make it safe for people and life in the water. My tax dollars are at work correcting a blight on our lake.
Now, the province is proposing to make our lake a CESSPOOL again because, for some reason, there is this great need to rush the Spa infrastructure. The Spa will have a 95- year lease. They cannot wait to do the job properly? Why not? Does a private company have precedence over the health and wellbeing of the citizens of Ontario??
This effluent will risk human health because of poor water quality at beaches, fishing and recreational activities. What will Canadian and international visitors think when they see signs saying, "Swim at your own risk"? World-class?
2. Canada is a signatory to the Canada-US Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement (GLWQA), entered into to deal with the urgent need to improve environmental conditions in the Great Lakes, to restore and enhance water quality in the Great Lakes ecosystem. It established basin-wide water quality objectives and binational commitment for implementation and monitoring of associated programs.
What will Mr. Trump have to say about that?
3. This effluent also risks human health in terms of water quality at beaches, for fishing and the quality of the lake as an attraction for Canadian and international visitors.
‘Don’t swim’ is not an invitation.
4. The province has NOT held any consultations with the general public. But WE will SUFFER the consequences.
5. Raw sewage threatens the stability of the lake ecosystem in a time of severe biodiversity loss.
This proposal will benefit private sector initiatives It is not in the public interest!
Please deny this permit. Thank you.
