I’m weighing in on the proposal for an interim combined sewer to support development at 955 Lake Shore Boulevard (Ontario Place), and I’m firmly against it. This plan directly undermines decades of effort by the City of Toronto to replace and separate combined sewers, which is critical to preventing raw sewage from spilling into Lake Ontario. Beyond that, it blatantly disregards international commitments to safeguard the water quality and ecosystems of the Great Lakes.

Let’s not forget the serious risks this poses to public health, from water quality at our beaches to the safety of fishing, not to mention the impact on the lake as a draw for both Canadians and international visitors. Yet, despite all this, the province hasn’t bothered to consult the public on such a significant decision.

This is a move to serve private interests, not the public good, and it jeopardizes the health of Lake Ontario’s ecosystem at a time when biodiversity is already under immense strain. For the sake of our lake and its future, I urge you to deny this permit.
