I am writing regarding the proposal for an interim combined sewer overflow (CSO) to accommodate the development of the Therme private spa at Ontario Place (955 Lake Shore Blvd). Besides circumventing the work already in place by the City of Toronto and costing Ontario taxpayers more money to yield to the needs of this company, it will potentially pour raw sewage into an area used by swimmers, rowers and for other water activities and risk human health. As well it is also in direct contradiction to both the Great Lakes Protection Act, 2015 and the bi-national Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement (GLWQA). The Great Lakes Protection Act specifically states that the purpose of this act is to: “protect human health and well-being through the protection and restoration of water quality, hydrologic functions and the ecological health of the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence River Basin, including through the elimination or reduction of harmful pollutants.” Nothing in this proposal does anything to “ protect human health and well-being.” The sole point of this proposal is to benefit a private company with the taxpayer paying the bill. It is not in the public interest nor in the interest of the health of the Great Lakes.
Please deny this permit.
