The proposed changes of Bill 5 allows the government to bypass Provinicial legislation protecting archaeological resources both previously identified and those not yet found. This is an incredible disservice to the non-renewable Provinicially recognized resources, and another example of continued erasure of Ontario's Indigenous presence by the government itself. Ontario owes it to the Indigenous Nations that we do better, not worse, to work towards Reconciliation.
Our diligent approach to studies in advance of development, public and private, is not just for fun but to ensure there aren't concerns that could derail projects and increase timelines and costs.
This aspect of this bill is horribly irresponsible.
