While I think some elements of this bill have merit, none of them can be implemented properly. This is asking an existing group of organizations in the ministry and agencies, who are already critically underfunded and understaffed, to take on exponentially more work at the whim of a Minister.
On top of that, it is inexcusable to create the ability for a Minister or government to forgo consultation with Indigenous partners that would help assess archaeological elements of a site. This is the bare minimum of what we should be doing as part of our nation-to-nation relationship obligations.
Fast-tracking assessments benefits no one but ultra-wealthy developers who don't care about the diverse and historic fabric of the province, and are willing to pay to obliterate archaeological history just so they can build ten McMansions and a condo no one can afford to live in.
