Natural gas is not a solution for climate change; it is a bad idea for the climate. It is a fossil fuel and also, methane is released with drilling, extraction and transportation. Methane traps many more times the amount of heat as CO2. There are other major environmental drawbacks, including risk of aquatic contamination, land disturbance, harm to ecosystems and the use of large amounts of water.

Any planned support for natural gas should be shifted instead to renewables and the amount of renewables rapidly increased in our energy mix. We would then have the chance to reduce emissions as needed to avoid the increasingly devastating and costly impacts of climate change.

The people of Ontario would benefit both environmentally and economically if we move our energy sector to wind and solar, which are now viable and lower cost options.
