These policies give power to the LG to hand wave archaeological requirements away for quick development, which not only threatens Ontario heritage and Indigenous rights and sovereignty, but thousands of workers whose livelihood depend on archaeological consultation. The Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Gaming and Sport needs to be well staffed and funded to speed up project approvals, report processing and review in order to speed along environmental assessments and continue to engage positively with Indigenous nations. As a reminder, LiUNA endorsed the Ford government, and represents hundreds of archaeologists across the province.
